New Delhi: Amazon India announced on Thursday that it will invest over ₹2,000 crore in 2025 to expand and upgrade its pan-India operations network. The investment aims to enhance fulfilment speed, boost technological innovation, and improve employee and associate well-being across the country.
The planned capital infusion will support the expansion of Amazon’s operations infrastructure, including the launch of new sites and upgrades to existing facilities across its fulfilment centres (intelligent warehouses), sortation hubs, and delivery network. The company said the goal is to serve customers faster and more reliably, while improving overall efficiency.
This new investment builds on Amazon’s existing infrastructure that enables delivery to all serviceable pin codes in India. With the country’s e-commerce market growing rapidly—driven by affordable smartphones, broadband connectivity, digital payments, and a mobile-first, tech-savvy young population—Amazon is reinforcing its commitment to the Indian market. The company joins other major players like Flipkart in contributing to a digital revolution that has reshaped India’s online retail sector. Industry estimates suggest the Indian e-commerce market could grow at a compound annual growth rate of 21 per cent and reach USD 325 billion by 2030.
According to Amazon, its buildings—both new and existing—are being designed with technology-enabled, energy-efficient systems aimed at reducing power consumption. Fulfilment centres are being constructed to be safe, accessible, and inclusive, particularly for persons with disabilities. Enhancements include improved cooling systems, upgraded safety protocols, and dedicated resting areas for workers.
The company said these strategic investments reflect its ongoing commitment to strengthening its operational footprint, supporting local sellers, and enhancing customer convenience, while also driving local economic growth.
Amazon also emphasised its continued investment in safety and support for delivery associates and drivers. This includes the use of advanced technologies to alert drivers to unsafe speeds, encourage timely rest breaks, and optimise delivery route assignments to ensure fairness and safety. The company is streamlining its driver onboarding process, upgrading its driver app to improve earnings transparency, and simplifying delivery workflows. These improvements include photo- and video-based item verification, better navigation tools for unstructured addresses, and reduced cognitive load for delivery partners.
In parallel, Amazon is focusing on employee and associate well-being. It continues to expand initiatives like ‘Ashray’, which offers rest points with seating, water, charging stations, and washrooms—even for delivery partners outside its own network. It is also scaling up 'Samridhi', a financial well-being programme that offers financial literacy and support for personal finance to associates and drivers.
In a move to further support its workforce, Amazon has also launched a nationwide initiative offering free health check-ups to over 80,000 delivery associates and partners through medical camps, set to continue through the end of 2025.
“These latest investments reflect our commitment to continually expand and upgrade our operations across our fulfilment, sortation and delivery network,” said Abhinav Singh, Vice President – Operations, Amazon India and Australia. “By strengthening infrastructure capabilities, enhancing processing capacity, and implementing advanced technology, Amazon is positioning itself to better serve customers throughout India while supporting employees, associates and partners who are the heart of it all,” he added.
