54th Kerala State Awards: Prithviraj wins Best Actor for 'Aadujeevitham'

Chennai: Prithviraj Sukumaran was honored with the Best Actor award for his exceptional portrayal of Najeeb in director Blessy’s 'Aadujeevitham' (The Goat Life) at the 54th Kerala State Film Awards ceremony, held in Thiruvananthapuram. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan presented the award to the actor, acknowledging his outstanding performance in the film, which demanded remarkable physical and emotional intensity.

In 'Aadujeevitham', Prithviraj brought to life the powerful narrative of survival and resilience, deeply moving audiences both in Kerala and internationally. Critics and film enthusiasts alike have praised his performance, with many seeing the state recognition as a fitting tribute to a portrayal that has already earned global admiration.

Announced on August 16, 2024, the awards honored the cinematic achievements of 2023. Although the presentation was delayed, the timing of this recognition is significant in Prithviraj’s career. Having recently directed 'L2: Empuraan', one of Malayalam cinema's highest-grossing blockbusters, the award underscores his multifaceted contributions to the industry. It marks not only a triumph for his performance but also a celebration of his visionary work as both an actor and a director.

This recognition also carries a sense of legacy. Prithviraj’s father, the legendary Sukumaran, was the first in their family to receive the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor. Later, Mohanlal, who held the record for many years, became another iconic figure in the family’s cinematic history. In 2006, Prithviraj made history himself, becoming the youngest-ever recipient of the Best Actor award at the age of 24 for his performance in 'Vaasthavam', breaking Mohanlal's two-decade reign. Nearly two decades later, this latest honor brings the family legacy full circle, with Prithviraj continuing to push the boundaries of excellence in both his acting and filmmaking.

Prithviraj’s journey has been one of constant evolution. From reshaping mainstream narratives to establishing Malayalam cinema on the global stage, this award is a tribute not only to his brilliance as a performer but also to his unwavering commitment as an artist who continues to deliver his best on screen.
