Aamir Khan’s latest film Sitaare Zameen Par is all set to make its digital debut just six weeks after its theatrical release.
The actor-producer announced that the movie will be available to stream on his official YouTube channel, Aamir Khan Talkies, starting August 1.
Priced at ₹100, the film will follow a pay-per-watch model and be available to viewers for 48 hours only.
During a special meet-and-greet event held in Mumbai on July 29, Khan shared details about this new digital venture. “No one wants to engage in the piracy business in the first place. But, what's happening in the last few years that we can't make our films reach the audience in the remote corners of the world?” he said, explaining the motivation behind the move.
He added, “The film comes to television almost a year after its theatrical release. You have to watch adverts during the show. For a clean watch, this pay-per-model has been introduced.”
Alongside Sitaare Zameen Par, the YouTube channel will host a wide range of titles from Aamir Khan Productions. Fans can look forward to films like Dangal, Lagaan, Taare Zameen Par, and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na.
Additionally, episodes of the socially driven talk show Satyamev Jayate, previously hosted by Khan, will also be uploaded to the platform.
Khan further revealed that the channel would also serve as a platform for emerging filmmakers. Their films will follow the same 48-hour pay-per-view model, with a ticket price of ₹100.
Directed by R.S. Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par features Aamir Khan as a basketball coach who trains a team of specially-abled children. The film focuses on embracing individual differences, as Khan’s character, Gulshan Arora, learns to understand that “sabka apna normal.”
The cast also includes Genelia Deshmukh, Dolly Ahluwalia, and Brijendra Kala.
The film performed well at the box office and is now aiming to reach a broader audience through this digital release model.
