James Gunn’s new film Superman, featuring David Corenswet in the lead role, has had an impressive start at the global box office. Marking a new chapter for the DC Universe under the leadership of Gunn and Peter Safran, the film collected ₹9.25 crore on its second day in India.
Over the weekend, Superman outperformed other recent Hollywood releases like F1 and Jurassic World: Rebirth, with its Indian earnings reaching around ₹16.25 crore by Saturday.
The film faced stiff competition from several high-profile releases, including Rajkummar Rao’s Maalik, Brad Pitt’s F1: The Movie, and Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par.
Still, it managed to achieve a 32.5% occupancy rate for its English screenings on Saturday, according to data from industry tracker Sacnilk, indicating strong day-on-day growth, TNIE reported.
As reported by Deadline, the film has received a largely favourable response overseas, with projections pointing to a worldwide opening exceeding $210 million.
While reactions across different international markets have varied, the domestic reception has been notably strong.
Gunn’s direction, along with a prominent cast that includes Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult, has played a key role in the film’s early box office momentum.
