Guwahati: Assam Police have arrested a man for allegedly creating a fake social media profile of influencer Archita Phukan and using morphed and AI-generated images and videos to harass and defame her online.
The accused, Pratim Bora, was taken into custody in Dibrugarh on Saturday evening after a complaint was filed. Police confirmed that he had a prior acquaintance with the victim, TNIE reported.
According to Dibrugarh’s acting Senior Superintendent of Police, Sizal Agarwal, the complaint indicated that the content being circulated online was digitally altered and produced using artificial intelligence. The complainant had provided a link to an Instagram account, which investigators traced to a specific phone number. That number was linked to Bora, who was actively using it at the time.
Further investigation revealed that the accused had set up a website where he uploaded AI-generated pornographic content involving the victim. Access to the site required a paid subscription, and Bora reportedly earned around ₹10 lakh through this platform.
Agarwal noted that the motive appeared to be largely personal, intended to cause harm and distress to the victim. He added that the widespread circulation of the content had severely affected the victim’s mental health, and authorities were arranging for her to receive necessary counselling and support.
