Bihar issues high alert after multiple drones seen entering from Nepal

Patna: Bihar police issued a high alert on Tuesday in districts bordering Nepal following the sighting of multiple drones entering Indian airspace the previous night.

According to reports, the drones—estimated to be between 15 and 20 in number—were seen hovering for approximately 40 minutes near the Kamla Border Outpost in Madhubani district before retreating back to Nepal.

Officials from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) indicated that the objects, resembling drones, appeared around 7:30 p.m. on Monday, travelling from west to east before returning northward into Nepal, TNIE reported.

The SSB also made inquiries with security officials from Nepal regarding any routine flying drone exercises, but they reportedly denied conducting any such activity.

Ojha mentioned that the drone-like objects were also observed by SSB personnel stationed at the Janki Nagar Border Outpost as they made their way back into Nepal.

The officials promptly informed their superiors, who then relayed the information to the Air Force stations in Darbhanga and Delhi. This sequence of events led to a high alert being declared along the India-Nepal border.

Additionally, the SSB contacted Nepalese security authorities to check if any regular drone operations were underway, but it was reported that no such activities had been conducted.

Rakesh Kumar, the Station House Officer of Galgalia police station, stated that a comprehensive checking drive had been initiated in the border regions, utilizing dog squads and scanning equipment.

He mentioned that patrolling teams had been directed to thoroughly inspect all vehicles entering India from Nepal. According to him, border surveillance had been heightened following Operation Sindoor and plainclothes officers were deployed to monitor any suspicious activity.

In Madhubani district, which borders Nepal, the 48th Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal has been stationed, with Vivek Ojha serving as its Deputy Commandant.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Police in Bihar has called for a meeting with all Inspectors General and Deputy Inspectors General at police headquarters. The meeting aims to review the law and order situation, especially in light of the upcoming assembly elections and a recent spike in crime across the state.
