Darbhanga: A man in Bihar's Darbhanga shot dead son-in-law at pointblank range after being upset over his daughter’s inter-caste marriage, NDTV reported.
Rahul Kumar, 25, a second-year student of BSc (Nursing) at Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital, was killed in front of his newly-wedded wife Tannu Priya, a first-year nursing student.
Responding to the horrific act, Rahul's fellow students thrashed Tannu's father, Premshankar Jha.
After initial treatment at the hospital, Jha was taken to Patna for better care, according to the report.
Married four months ago, Rahul and Tannu stayed at different floors in their hostel.
Last evening she saw a man wearing hoodie approaching Rahul ‘He had a gun. It was my father, Premshankar Jha’, she said.
‘He shot my husband in the chest, in front of my eyes. My husband fell into my lap,’ she said, accusing her whole family of being part of the conspiracy.
‘We had also gone to court and said that my father and my brothers may harm me or my husband,’ she was quoted as saying.
After the shooting, there broke out chaos with Rahul friends beating up Jha alongside demanding justice for their friend.
Police arrived at the scene and chased the students of the hospital. A large group of cops was stationed there to keep the situation under control.
Following the incident, Darbhanga District Magistrate Kaushal Kumar and Senior Superintendent of Police Jagannath Reddy arrived at the hospital.
‘We first got information that a BSc (Nursing) student had been shot dead. Later, we came to know that he and a fellow student had a love marriage. Her father came and shot him. There was a scuffle at the hospital because the students were not letting healthcare staff treat Jha. He is now being referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital. We will register a case and take necessary action,’ Jagannath Reddy told media.
