Hyderabad: BJP party members allegedly vandalised the famous Karachi Bakery of Hyderabad during a protest the party staged there. Telangana Police informed that the miscreants wanted the name of the sweetmeat shop to be changed from its Pakistan origin name, The Indian Express reported.
On Saturday evening, it was the Karachi Bakery branch in Shamshabad got attacked and this happens when tensions froth between India and Pakistan.
However, police said that no employees were harmed, and no serious damage was caused. They reached the spot within minutes and dispersed the miscreants, they informed.
Following Saturday’s attack, RGI Airport Police booked the protesters under sections 126 (2) and 324 (4) of BNS – wrongful restraint and causing damage to property, but no arrests were made.
This is not the first time Karachi Bakery has faced an attack in recent weeks. Last week, when tensions were significantly high, another group planted a tricolour before the Banjara Hills branch of the sweetmeat shop.
Though the bakery got its name from Pakistan soil, those running it are descendants of those who migrated from the country to India during partition. It was founded in 1953 at the Mozamjahi market in Hyderabad. The bakery has several other branches including in Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai. In Hyderabad alone, it has 24 branches and the chain is famous for Osmania Biscuits.
The manager of the establishment told TIE that there bakery is Indian and cannot be branded as Pakistani.
Earlier, the bakery owners, Rajesh and Harish Ramnani, issued a statement requesting Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to offer them protection. The bakery was also vandalised after the 2019 Pulwama attack.
