Cloudburst triggers flash floods in Uttarakhand; several feared trapped

Dehradun: A cloudburst in the catchment area of the Kheer Ganga river triggered devastating flash floods in the high-altitude villages of Dharali in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district on Tuesday, causing severe damage to infrastructure and prompting widespread panic.

According to local residents, the cloudburst led to raging waters that swept away several houses. Rajesh Panwar, a villager from the area, reported that 20 to 25 hotels and homestays may also have been washed away in the deluge. He added that around 10 to 12 people are feared trapped under the debris.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as villagers scrambled to reach higher ground. Videos circulating from the affected areas captured torrents of water gushing through the region, with people screaming in panic as the floods tore through properties.

Rescue and relief efforts are expected to begin once the weather stabilises. Further details are awaited.
