Limbayat/Gujarat: Over the incident of a sub-inspector of police in Gujarat allegedly manhandling a boy for accidentally driving his bicycle into the route where Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy was to pass has been punished by the state police. A video has surfaced showing the incident, which took place in Gujarat’s Limbayat when the police were carrying out a rehearsal on Thursday, The Indian Express reported.
It was sub-inspector B L Gadhvi, who was caught on camera when he beat the boy. The officer has been transferred to Morbi from Surat, and his increment has been put on hold for a year, Gujarat Police informed.
The footage that showed the officer punching the boy in the face went viral on Friday, while PM Modi is expected to address a public meeting in Limbayat in the evening.
On Thursday, the Surat police department officials were carrying out a rehearsal of the convoy route to ensure there were no lapses in security, TIE reported. During this exercise, when a convoy was passing through Limbayat main road, a boy riding a bicycle entered the road, and the sub-inspector stationed nearby caught him.
Deputy Commissioner of the Surat police traffic department, Anita Vanani, informed us that the officer’s duty had been changed from that of the PM security bandobast to that of the Surat police control room. Later, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Branch, Hetal Patel, issued a press note saying that PSI B L Gadhvi had been sent to Morbi. He said that such behaviour could not be tolerated, and they have written to the Superintendent of Police, Morbi, requesting to stop the one-year increment of the PSI.
Further, Limbayat police identified the boy and brought him to the police station to record his statement. Police say that the boy had come to Surat recently from Nepal and was staying at a relative’s home.
