CPI leader Chandu Rathod shot dead in Hyderabad during morning walk

Hyderabad: Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Chandu Rathod was shot dead during morning walk at Shalivahana Nagar Park in Hyderabad on Tuesday morning, The Indian Express reported.

The 47-year-old leader was attacked by three to four assailants, according to the Malakpet police.

The motive behind the murder of the CPI’s Hyderabad city committee member is not known.

The assailants, who arrived in a car at around 7.30 am, opened fire at Rathod and fled the scene in the same car.

Rathod’s family pointed to an enmity between the leader and a rival communist party member, police reported.

An officer at Malakpet police station said that all possible angles in the case would be probed.

CPI national leader K Narayana reportedly said that the party was waiting for details to know if there was any political rivalry behind the murder.
