It was only this week Uttarakhand administration demolished another similar structure, the Mazar of Syed Masoom Shah Miyan, which was demolished under the name of a road widening project by the NHAI, The Indian Express reported.
Dehradun Municipal Corporation Commissioner Namami Bansal claimed that the mazar was on the land allotted to the hospital, and the demolition move was on the basis of a complaint received through the CM helpline portal.
Namami Bansal said that Doon Medical College had also flagged and demanded excavators, which the administration provided them. She said it was the revenue department that carried out the demolition drive.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of Medical Education Additional Director Dr Ravindra Bisht said that the complaint against the mazar was filed months ago by a resident.
Bisht said that the local administration asked for the hospital authorities' documents of the Mazar, but they didn’t have them. They informed the administration four days before, and an inspection was carried out last night before the Mazar was demolished.
The Mazar of Syed Masoom Shah Miyan was on the night of April 21, and the case was sub judice in the high court. The Mazar management has sought the soil be moved to the mutawalli’s house and land be provided for the dargah to be shifted. Meanwhile, the council for the Mazar management submitted before the court that the Mazar was recorded as a Waqf property with the board.
Uttarakhand Congress leader Suryakant Dhasmana said that the state government is spreading hatred, dividing people by targeting madrasas and Mazars. He said that the Mazar was run by the Waqf boards of Uttarakhand and earlier Uttar Pradesh, and the board should give the answer on the legality of the structure. The BJP dispensation in the state wanted to create divisions, pitting Hindus against Muslims.
