Eknath Shinde announces Rs 5L aid for family of Pahalgam hero Adil Shah

Thane: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced a financial aid of Rs 5 lakh for the family of Syed Adil Hussain Shah, a pony ride operator hailed as a hero for his selfless act of bravery during the Pahalgam terror attack. Shah, who was the sole breadwinner of his family, tragically lost his life while attempting to protect tourists during the attack that took place on April 22 in Pahalgam, South Kashmir.

The 20-year-old pony operator was guiding tourists through the scenic region when terrorists opened fire, killing 26 people, most of whom were visitors. In a brave bid to save a tourist, Shah attempted to shield them and even tried to disarm one of the terrorists by grabbing a rifle. However, he was shot and killed in the process. Shah, the only local fatality in the attack, is being remembered for his extraordinary courage and sacrifice.

Moved by Shah’s heroic actions, Deputy CM Shinde, who was in Srinagar on April 23 to assist Maharashtra tourists stranded due to the attack, personally pledged financial assistance to Shah’s family. A cheque of Rs 5 lakh was delivered by Shiv Sena workers, led by Shinde, along with officials from a border organization who traveled to Pahalgam for this purpose.

In addition to the financial assistance, Shinde connected with Shah’s family through video conferencing to offer his condolences. During the conversation, Shah’s brother shared the distressing details of the attack and his brother’s valiant attempt to save the tourists. Shinde praised Shah’s extraordinary courage, describing it as a “unique example to the world.” He assured the family that their son’s sacrifice would not be forgotten.

Shinde also pledged to support the family further by assisting in the reconstruction of their dilapidated home. “The bravery shown by Syed Adil Hussain Shah will be remembered by the entire nation. His martyrdom is a testament to the power of humanity in the face of terror,” Shinde said during the video call, as per an official release from his office.
