New Delhi: Panic gripped parts of the national capital on Friday after five schools in Delhi’s Dwarka area received bomb threats via email, prompting mass evacuations and large-scale security checks.
According to Delhi Police, a single email containing the threat was sent to five schools: St Thomas School (Sector 19), Delhi International School Edge (Sector 18A), Central Academy School (Sector 10), G.D. Goenka School (Sector 17), and Modern International School (Sector 19).
The alerts sparked fear among students, parents, and school staff. All five campuses were swiftly evacuated, and some schools announced a temporary shift to online classes as a precautionary measure.
Acting promptly, Delhi Police began search operations in coordination with bomb disposal squads, dog units, and fire service personnel. Extensive searches were carried out at all five schools.
After hours of scanning, authorities confirmed that no suspicious objects were found at any of the locations. Police said investigations are underway to trace the origin of the threatening email and identify those responsible.
This latest incident is part of a worrying trend of bomb threats targeting educational institutions in the capital. Just days earlier, on July 16, a similar email threat was sent to Vasant Valley School in South Delhi and St Thomas School in Dwarka.
Reacting to the development, Delhi’s former education minister Atishi wrote on X, “More than 20 schools have received bomb threats today! Think of the trauma that children, parents and teachers would be going through. BJP controls all 4-engines of governance in Delhi, and is yet not able to provide any safety or security to our children! Shocking!”
Police have not ruled out the possibility of mischief and are exploring whether the incidents are part of a coordinated effort to cause disruption.
