Ganga means so much to me: UP cop swims in the floodwater in his home

Lucknow: A police man in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj was happy to see floodwaters rushing into his home, saying ‘The Ganga has given me a lot in life’.

Sub-Inspector Chandradeep Nishad was seen in a video pouring milk and scattering rose petals into the water in his house in Mori, The Indian Express reported.

‘I owe much of my progress to this river, and that’s why it means so much to me,’ he was quoted as saying.

Torrential rain in the state led to flooding in residential areas in Prayagraj.

However, the 48-year-old seemed to be not worrying about the water rushing in his house.

Footage showed the officer in his police uniform praying to the floodwater reverently addressing ‘Ganga Maiya’.

The officer was seen in another video diving off the second floor of the house and swimming in the flood rooms.

Following heavy rains in the state, at least 17 districts faced flood-like situation after Ganga and Yamuna flowed above the danger mark.

Thousands of families have been displaced following flooding in several areas.

Nishad, however, calmly said that the river helped shaping his career and personal growth.

He entered the police force through the sports quota in 1995 over his achievements as a swimmer.

‘I learned to swim in the river Ganga. It all started there. Later, I moved to Lucknow to pursue greater opportunities in life,’ he said.

Nishad said that his children shared the videos that later went viral on social media.
