Senior Advocate Indira Jaising will be honored with the 5th Dr. Asghar Ali Engineer Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award by the Mumbai-based Centre for Study of Society and Secularism at a ceremony in Udaipur on April 19.
Jaising, a Senior Advocate in the Supreme Court of India and former Additional Solicitor General (2009-2014), will also deliver a talk titled "Judicial Accountability and Appointment of Judges." She is the founder of the Lawyers Collective and the legal magazine 'The Leaflet' and served as an expert member of CEDAW from 2009 to 2012.
Dr. Asghar Ali Engineer (1939-2013), a prominent academician, human rights activist, and writer, founded the Centre for Study of Society and Secularism. He was also known for leading the Bohra reform movement, which began in 1972, and for his leadership in committees such as the Central Board of the Dawoodi Bohra Community, which sought to represent the Bohra community independently of the Syedna, their spiritual leader.
