Journalist shot dead in Haryana by unidentified attackers

Gurugram: A journalist was fatally shot in the head by unidentified assailants in Haryana's Jhajjar district late Sunday night, succumbing to his injuries during treatment, police confirmed on Monday.

The victim, Dharmendra Singh Chauhan, a veteran journalist and resident of Luhari village, had returned home after work on Sunday evening.

After dinner, he stepped out for a walk when he was ambushed and shot by unknown attackers, who fled the scene immediately, according to officials.

Upon hearing the gunshot, locals rushed to the scene and found Chauhan lying in a pool of blood. They immediately alerted his family and transported him to a hospital in Pataudi.

Due to the severity of his condition, he was referred for advanced medical care, prompting his family to shift him to a private hospital in Gurugram.

Chauhan was admitted to Ganesh Ji Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. His family stated that he had suffered a bullet wound to the head, leaving his condition critical from the outset.

Upon receiving the report, a team from the police and forensic department reached the crime scene and launched an investigation. Evidence was gathered, but authorities have yet to uncover any leads regarding the attackers' identities or the motive behind the murder.

Chauhan's family, still in shock, remains unable to identify any possible suspects.

The investigation is ongoing, and further updates are awaited.

The gruesome murder has triggered widespread outrage among media circles and local journalists' bodies.

Several journalist organisations have condemned the killing and urged the state government and police authorities to act swiftly.

"The attackers must be identified and brought to justice immediately," demanded representatives from press groups, calling for strict and prompt action against the perpetrators.
