New Delhi: India's active Covid-19 cases have climbed above 3,000, with Kerala, Maharashtra, and Delhi contributing significantly to the increase, according to official data. As of May 31, the country has reported 3,395 active cases—an increase of 2,385 cases since May 19.
In the past 24 hours, four deaths linked to Covid-19 have been reported—one each in Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh. Government sources emphasized that the situation is under close watch.
The infections remain mostly mild, with the majority of patients recovering at home. Authorities have stated there is no cause for concern at this time, TNIE reported.
While most states had not reported notable case numbers before May 19, a distinct upward trend has emerged since then. Health data expert Krishna Prasad, based in Kerala, noted that 26 states and Union Territories are currently reporting active cases.
Kerala remains the most affected state, reporting 1,336 active Covid-19 cases as of Saturday, a sharp rise from 430 cases on May 26. The state has also reported six deaths—an increase of four since May 26.
Following Kerala, Maharashtra has reported the highest number of deaths at seven, including one on Saturday, along with a surge in cases from 209 on May 26 to 467. Karnataka and Delhi have each recorded three deaths.
Other states reporting fatalities include Uttar Pradesh (2), and one each from Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Punjab.
Delhi’s active cases rose sharply to 375, up by 270 from 105 on May 26. Karnataka saw its cases doubling, increasing from 47 to 234 in six days.
Several other states have also shown rising trends. Tamil Nadu’s cases grew from 69 to 185; Gujarat’s from 83 to 265; and Uttar Pradesh saw a significant rise from 15 to 117.
West Bengal reported a steep increase as well, from just 12 cases to 205. Rajasthan’s cases rose from 12 to 60, Puducherry from 9 to 41, Haryana from 11 to 26, and Madhya Pradesh from 9 to 16.
