New Delhi: In a key organisational reshuffle, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) President Mayawati has appointed her nephew Akash Anand as the party’s Chief National Coordinator. The announcement was made during a high-level party meeting on Sunday, signalling a fresh thrust towards national coordination and structural reforms within the party.
As part of the restructuring, Mayawati directed the formation of teams by dividing the country into three zones, each headed by a National Coordinator. These three zonal coordinators will report directly to Akash Anand, who has been entrusted with overseeing the streamlining of party operations and coordination efforts across India.
Mayawati expressed confidence that Akash Anand would take all necessary steps to strengthen the party’s ideological base and uphold the interests of the BSP and its core movement.
Reacting to the development, senior BSP leader Vijay Pratap stated, “The entire country has been divided into three sectors, and National Coordinators have been appointed for each. Akash Anand has been given the overall responsibility as Chief National Coordinator. All our workers across the country are very happy, their morale is high, and under Akash Anand Ji’s leadership, the organisation will definitely grow stronger.”
This significant move follows Mayawati’s recent reinstatement of Akash Anand into the party’s central functioning. On April 29, she had urged party workers to support and encourage him after he had been previously removed from key responsibilities.
In a detailed statement on the social media platform X, Mayawati explained the party’s internal processes and justified her decision. She noted that some BSP members, due to over-enthusiasm, ignorance, or being misled by the opposition, are occasionally removed from positions. In serious cases, they are expelled, but upon reflection and apology, they may be reinstated in the interest of the party and its mission — a practice followed since the party’s inception.
Responding to criticism over Akash’s return, Mayawati said, “Some selfish and sellable elements within the Bahujan Samaj, who have floated their own parties to divide the BSP vote, are spreading false propaganda in the media about his return.”
