Thane: Police officials in Maharashtra's Thane said on Friday that they have registered a case against a retired local civic body official for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of a minority community through his remarks, PTI reported
The FIR was filed after a complaint was lodged based on a purported audio clip of a conversation between the accused and a local political leader, in which he passed the remarks against members of the Muslim community, an official of Mumbra police station said.
Based on the complaint filed by a woman social worker, the police registered the case against him under section 299 (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on July 17, he said.
The audio clip of the conversation involving the accused was aired on a news channel. The complaint said he made derogatory remarks against Muslims, which hurt their religious sentiments.
Probe into the case was ongoing, and no arrest has been made so far, the official said.
