Pahalgam terror attack: All party meeting called by Centre on April 24

The Union government is set to convene an all-party meeting on Thursday in response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, according to official sources.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to preside over the meeting, the sources added.

Both Home Minister Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh are reportedly engaging with leaders from different political parties regarding the matter.

Several opposition parties, including the Congress, had earlier urged the government to hold an all-party discussion on the incident, TNIE reported.

On Wednesday evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security in response to the most severe terror attack against civilians in recent times.

In the aftermath of the meeting, India announced a series of strong retaliatory steps, including the downgrading of diplomatic relations with Pakistan. These measures involve the expulsion of Pakistani military attachés, the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty—over six decades old—and the immediate closure of the Attari-Wagah land crossing.

The high-level session was attended by key officials such as Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and others.

The attack took place on Tuesday at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam and is being considered one of the most lethal in the Kashmir Valley since the 2019 Pulwama attack, which claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel.
