Bhubaneswar: A 33-year-old national-level para-athlete died after a rabid dog bit him in Odisha's Bolangir a few days ago.
The dog attacked Jogendra Chhatria and five others, including some students on their way to school, on July 23, according to NDTV.
Following the attacks they were transported initially to the Bolangir district headquarters hospital, before being rushed to Burla.
Another victim, Hrushikesh Rana, 48, died on Saturday while receiving treatment at the hospital.
It is reported citing the Centre that India recorded over 37 lakhs dog bites cases in 2024 alongside 54 suspected human rabies deaths.
Union Minister SP Singh Baghel told the parliament on July 22 that there were 37,17,336 and 54 human rabies deaths.
He added that municipalities responsible for controlling stray god population are implementing the Animal Birth Control Programme to control their population.
