In Kalindi Basti, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, BJP leader Gunjan Yadav, along with a group of Hindu nationalist supporters, reportedly entered the home of a Christian family on Sunday, alleging that they were involved in religious conversion activities.
Following the group's complaints, local authorities detained 12 people and confiscated Bibles and other religious items, which were later sealed as part of the investigation.
The confrontation was triggered by a program taking place in a rented residence in the Sitaramdera area. Upon being informed, Gunjan Yadav—former district president of the BJP Jamshedpur Mahanagar—arrived at the scene, where tensions escalated.
The group accused the participants of religious conversion, confronted attendees, raised slogans, and launched a protest at the location, Maktoob Media reported.
Several local political figures, including Amit Agrawal, Vikas Bauri, Shishir Kalindi, Dilip Paswan, and Umesh Saw, reportedly took part in the protest.
Authorities were alerted to the unrest, prompting police intervention. Sitaramdera Police Station in-charge Niranjan Kumar arrived with reinforcements to calm the situation and restore order.
He reportedly questioned a dozen individuals who had participated in the gathering and escorted them to the station for further inquiry.
Residents told Inside Jharkhand that such meetings had been occurring regularly every Sunday evening in the same rented premises, often extending late into the night. They claimed to have previously voiced their concerns to local leaders but saw no action.
In response to the heightened tensions, officials deployed a Quick Response Team (QRT) to maintain public order and prevent escalation. A significant police presence was also maintained in the area as a precautionary measure.
