Mangaluru: A mob lynched an unidentified man in Manguluru’s Kudupu over alleged pro-Pakistan sloganeering, India Today reported.
It is learned that 15 people were arrested over the incident, which was marked natural death first by the police. The man was attacked on April 27, Sunday, while a local cricket match was going on.
Karnataka government asserted that the incident is under detailed investigation, though the victim has not been identified yet, and even if the person is local or someone from outside the state, it is not clear.
The man allegedly shouted inciting slogans, which triggered a mob, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara informed. He added that the incident was deeply concerning and violence was not acceptable under any circumstances.
It is learned that the incident occurred around 3 pm on Sunday at a cricket tournament involving ten teams and over 100 players. An eyewitness said that a scuffle broke out between the victim and a man named Sachin, which escalated into a mob attack. More eyewitnesses testified that despite a group of people trying to stop the attack, the mob continued beating the man with sticks and kicks. A person named Sachin has been arrested, and he is among the mentioned 15 arrestees.
After the incident, police were alerted around 5:30 pm, and this was after the victim’s body was found near a temple. Initial examination of the body by police showed no injuries, which led them to suspect that it was a natural death, police claimed. But later, it came out that the death was due to internal bleeding and shock from repeated blows. A post-mortem at Wenlock District Hospital confirmed the same. Later, police noted injuries across limbs, back, buttocks and genitals.
