Lucknow: In the case of a man abducting and raping a three-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, the accused got killed in a police encounter on Friday, NDTV reported.
Police identified the accused as Deepak Verma from CCTV footage, which showed them the accused being with the child. According to police, the accused was a habitual offender, with him named in criminal cases in police stations across the city.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Zone) Ashish Srivastava said that five police teams were created to apprehend the accused after the abduction incident was reported. Police also announced a reward of one lakh rupees for his arrest.
Police had noted the accused scooter’s registration number through CCTV footage. Later, they received a tip-off, which helped intercept the man on the day at the Devi Kheda in Cantonment.
Officer Srivastava said that the accused refused to surrender and opened fire at the police team, which led to a retaliatory firing, causing injuries to the accused.
Narrating the details of the case, Srivastava said that on the morning of June 5, at 10 am, a complaint was registered that a 2.5-year-old girl child had been raped. Then, as mentioned, a case was registered, and five police teams were formed.
As per the CCTV footage of the scooter, the accused was identified as Deepak Verma... The Commissioner of Police was given a proposal to declare a reward of Rs 1 lakh... Within 20 hours, there was an encounter between the police team and the accused,” NDTV quoted the officer.
A critically injured accused was rushed to the hospital, and he succumbed to the injuries.
The child was found raped and abandoned under a metro bridge in an unconscious state, according to the report.
