Chandigarh: In a shocking incident that has left an entire village in Haryana’s Hisar district in deep shock, two minor students allegedly stabbed a school director-cum-principal to death inside the school premises on Thursday. The attack reportedly stemmed from the students’ anger over being frequently reprimanded for their hairstyle and lack of discipline.
The incident took place at Kartar Memorial Senior Secondary School located in Bass village of the Narnaund subdivision. The accused, both minors—one from Class 11 and the other from Class 12—reportedly used a knife to repeatedly stab director-principal Jagbir Singh Pannu. The attack occurred within the school premises, in full view of others, causing panic among staff and students.
School staff rushed the grievously injured principal to a private hospital in Hisar, but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Preliminary police investigation suggests that the principal had advised the students multiple times to maintain school discipline, including getting proper haircuts. Upset over these repeated instructions, the two students allegedly carried out the fatal assault.
As soon as authorities were alerted, local police reached the scene and began an investigation. CCTV footage from the school is being examined, and statements of eyewitnesses are being recorded to piece together the sequence of events.
Superintendent of Police of Hisar district told media that the exact motive and circumstances behind the brutal killing would become clearer following the post-mortem and detailed investigation. The crime has deeply disturbed the village community, especially as it occurred on the occasion of Guru Purnima—a day meant to honour and respect the sacred bond between teacher and student. The symbolism of such violence on this day has further intensified the sense of grief and disbelief among villagers.
Both accused students fled the scene after the attack but have been identified by police. As they are minors, their identities are being withheld in accordance with legal provisions.
The village remains tense in the aftermath of the killing, with residents expressing outrage and sorrow over the gruesome act committed within a space meant for learning and guidance.
