Vijay to lead a massive protest today over custodial death of temple guard

Chennai: Actor Vijay will lead a public protest today seeking justice for a private security guard who allegedly died in police custody in Sivagangai district, NDTV reported.

This is going to be his first public protest since launching political party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

Ajith Kumar , a temple guard at the Madapuram Temple, died in police custody last month. A sessions court judge in a report confirmed the guard’s illegal custody and torture.

Following which the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has directed the CBI to file a final report by August 20.

In the face of mounting protest, Stalin administration handed the case over to the Central Bureau of Investigation with the chief minister apologizing to the deceased’s family. The CBI was to officially take over the probe yesterday.

MK Stalin reportedly promised that ‘there should be no doubts over the investigation’.

Ajith Kumar was taken into custody after a woman named Nikita filed a complaint which has been handed over to the Central agency.

The Stalin administration has arrested five police personnel alongside suspending a DSP, placing the Sivagangai SP under compulsory wait.

Actor Vijay’s party is demanding a Special Investigation Team, monitored by High Court, to probe the case.

It is reported that families of other custodial death victims will join the protest giving it wider attention.

The protest today is viewed as Vijay’s show of strength ahead of the 2026assembly polls to announce himself the chief ministerial face.

TVK has announced it will not make any alliance with the BJP, thus making a clear statement on its political stance.
