‘Vote chori’ protest: INDIA bloc MPs to march to ECI office on Monday

New Delhi: The INDIA bloc, led by Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, is set to march from the Parliament House Complex to the Election Commission of India (ECI) office in Delhi on Monday, sources said. The Opposition MPs will cover the one-kilometre distance on foot and have already requested a meeting with the Election Commissioners.

On the same day, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will host a dinner for MPs of the INDIA bloc at Taj Palace in Chanakyapuri, a move aimed at strengthening the opposition alliance’s efforts to present a united front against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and alleged large-scale poll rigging.

This development follows a recent show of opposition unity when INDIA bloc leaders convened at the residence of Rahul Gandhi for a dinner meeting. During that gathering, opposition leaders vowed to fight the electoral roll revision in Bihar and what they described as the BJP-Election Commission’s "vote chori" (vote theft) model.

The meeting saw participation from leaders of 25 parties, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, NCP-SP chief Sharad Pawar, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee, DMK leaders Tiruchi Siva and T.R. Baalu, CPI’s D. Raja, CPI(M) leader M.A. Baby, MNM chief Kamal Haasan, and CPI(ML) leader Dipankar Bhattacharya.

At the meeting, Rahul Gandhi presented detailed allegations of "vote chori" being orchestrated by the BJP with the support of the Election Commission. According to Congress, Gandhi explained the entire scheme of electoral rigging facilitated through this alleged collusion.

Congress posted on social media platform X, “A united front against electoral manipulation! We are committed to protecting democracy and will save it from being destroyed at all costs.”

Earlier, at a press conference, Gandhi unveiled what he termed explosive evidence of a "huge criminal fraud" in the electoral process, accusing deep collusion between the BJP and the Election Commission.
