Kerala govt opens control rooms to assist Keralites in border states

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government announced on Friday that control rooms have been set up at the Secretariat and NORKA department to provide assistance and information to Keralites and students residing in areas bordering Pakistan.

The initiative was undertaken following directions from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in response to the tense situation in the border states, according to a statement from his office.

It also stated that "there is no need to be worried" at the moment.

The government urged Keralites in the border areas to follow official instructions and ensure their safety.

"If you need assistance, you can contact the control room number," it added.

The control room at the Secretariat can be reached through 0471-2517500/2517600, 0471-2322600 (fax) and cdmdkerala@kerala.gov.in, the statement said.

The Non-Resident Keralites Affairs (NORKA) global contact center can be reached at 18004253939 (toll-free number) and 00918802012345 (missed call from abroad), it said.

On the intervening night of May 8-9, Pakistan's armed forces launched multiple drone and munitions attacks along the western border, which were "effectively repulsed", according to the Indian Army.

Pakistani troops also engaged in "numerous ceasefire violations" along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.

These developments followed India's missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan early Wednesday under Operation Sindoor, carried out in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.
