Malappuram: Police reported on Saturday that a case has been registered against a man for allegedly pronouncing triple talaq to his wife over the phone a couple of days ago.
According to the woman's complaint, the husband made the call on her father's phone to pronounce the triple talaq. An FIR was filed under sections 498A (cruelty), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 34 (common intention) of the IPC, along with provisions of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act.
The woman, who has been living separately from her husband, a native of Kondotty, for nearly a year, alleged that she faced cruelty from him and his family during her time in the marital home. Police explained that this was the basis for including IPC provisions in the FIR.
They also stated that while the FIR has been registered, further proceedings will only commence after verifying the accuracy of her claims.
"For that we have seized the phone on which the husband had allegedly called and which contains the recording of the triple talaq being pronounced. We will verify it, and then we will take further steps," an officer of the Women Cell, where the complaint was received, said.
The officer said that following verification, if required, some sections will be removed from the FIR.
