Kozhikode: In the horrendous incident of the death of a Kerala 15-year-old student, where the boy was killed in a conflict between students in Thamarassery here, police received his postmortem report. The report stated that he had several grave injuries, including internal bleeding, a fractured skull and wounds above his eyes. A severe attack to the chest resulted in his death, the report suggested.
Muhammed Shahabas, the Class 10 student, was brutally assaulted on Thursday and was under medical treatment before he died on Friday night.
Police informed that they are now deepening the investigation into the murder, collecting information from the relatives of the deceased boy.
In the initial investigation, based on statements from students in custody as well as eyewitnesses, police learned that the attack on the boy involved the use of nunchaku, a martial arts weapon. Police have filed a murder charge against the students involved in the attack, Mathrubhumi reported.
What is known about the developments that reached the murder so far is that a farewell party was organized in a tuition centre in the locality, and Shahbaz, who is not a student of the centre, got involved. A conflict arose at the farewell party after students from MJHSS Elettil School and Thamarassery GVHSS clashed following a technical glitch that caused the music to stop. Students got into a verbal confrontation first, but authorities at the education centre managed to resolve it for the time being.
However, a WhatsApp group was created later by one of the parties in the conflict with plans for retaliation.
Shahabas, who had gone out to buy snacks, was allegedly taken to the site by a friend and later found near his house with serious injuries. Family members reported that he was unable to communicate before his condition worsened. Leaked voice messages from student groups have surfaced, allegedly showing students celebrating the boy’s plight.
The police are now investigating whether any adults assisted the students in procuring weapons like the nunchaku used in the attack.
