Wayanad man working as caregiver found dead in Israel

Thiruvananthapuram: A Keralite caregiver working in Israel was found dead on Friday at the residence where he was employed, along with the 80-year-old woman he was caring for.

The Indian Express reported that both deaths occurred “following an attack by unidentified individuals” at an apartment in Mevasseret Zion, a small town outside Jerusalem.

The deceased caregiver was identified as 38-year-old Jinesh Sukumaran, a native of Wayanad. He had travelled to Israel just two months earlier on a caregiver visa to look after the bedridden husband of the elderly woman.

Suja James, a local panchayat member, said they had received word of the incident through other caregivers working in Israel.

“A few people from Wayanad working as caregivers have shared the tragic news. We were told that the husband of the deceased woman also gave a statement to the local police pointing at an attack from outside. Reasons are not known to us. We don’t know further details at present,” she said.

According to Israeli media, the bodies of the woman and Sukumaran were found in separate rooms of the apartment.

Authorities have not yet released further information on the motive or identity of the attackers.
