New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear a plea challenging the National Board of Examination’s decision to conduct the NEET-PG 2025 exam in two shifts. The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Postgraduate courses (NEET-PG) is scheduled for June 15, 2025, and will be held in two computer-based shifts, with results expected by July 15.
A bench comprising Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justice Augustine George Masih noted the submissions made by the petitioner’s lawyer and assured that the plea will be listed for hearing soon. The lawyer pointed out that although the bench had earlier stated on May 23 that the plea would be listed for hearing the following week, it had not yet been scheduled. The lawyer emphasized the urgency, noting that admit cards for the exam are due to be issued on June 2. The Chief Justice responded that the matter would be listed within a day or two.
Earlier, on May 5, the bench had sought responses from the National Board of Examination, the National Medical Commission, and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare regarding the plea. Recently, the Supreme Court had delivered a verdict aimed at curbing seat-blocking during NEET-PG counselling, directing the publication of raw scores, answer keys, and the normalisation formula used for the exam.
The petitioners, led by Aditi and others, contend that holding the exam in two shifts could lead to unfairness due to potential variations in difficulty between the shifts. They seek a directive for the exam to be conducted in a single shift to ensure a fair, reasonable, and equitable competitive environment for all candidates.
