Israel agrees to 60-day Gaza ceasefire, Trump urges Hamas to accept final deal

US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that Israel has agreed to the conditions required to finalise a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, signaling a possible breakthrough in the prolonged and deadly conflict.

Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said, “My Representatives had a long and productive meeting with the Israelis today on Gaza. Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalise the 60 Day CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the War.”

The ceasefire terms will reportedly be delivered to Hamas by mediators Qatar and Egypt, who have played a central role in negotiations.

Trump emphasised the urgency of the moment, calling on Hamas to accept the terms. “I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE,” he warned.

The announcement comes amid heightened international calls for a halt to the Israel-Hamas war, which has left tens of thousands dead and millions displaced. Trump also told reporters that he expects a formal deal to be in place when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visits the United States next week.

Meanwhile, Hamas has reiterated its willingness to release remaining hostages in Gaza as part of a ceasefire agreement. However, it maintains its refusal to disarm — a key Israeli demand. Israel has insisted that any end to the war must include the disarmament and dismantling of Hamas, a stance the group has rejected.

The conflict erupted following Hamas’s surprise attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed 1,200 people and saw 251 hostages taken, according to Israeli reports. In response, Israel launched a sustained military campaign across Gaza that, according to Gaza’s health ministry, has killed over 56,000 Palestinians and displaced nearly the entire population.

Israel is currently facing accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice and war crimes at the International Criminal Court — charges it strongly denies.

In a separate development, Trump also claimed credit for helping to secure a ceasefire between Israel and Iran following nearly two weeks of escalating missile and drone attacks.

That conflict reportedly de-escalated after Iran launched a limited missile strike on a US base in Qatar, following American airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites. Trump announced that both nations had agreed to a “complete and total ceasefire.”
