Indian delegation in Kuwait pushes counter-terror cooperation

A multi-party Indian parliamentary delegation, led by MP Baijayant Panda, wrapped up its two-day official visit to Kuwait on Monday with a focus on strengthening ties and firmly conveying India’s position on counter-terrorism.

The delegation held meetings with senior editors and journalists from prominent Kuwaiti media outlets. During the discussions, they highlighted the expanding scope of India-Kuwait relations, which include increasing trade and investment flows, cultural connections and the contributions of the Indian community in Kuwait. They also addressed the importance of cooperation in the areas of security and counter-terrorism.

Referring to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Panda described it as an attempt to destabilise peace and hinder development in Jammu and Kashmir. He reiterated India’s firm policy of zero tolerance for terrorism and stressed that the country views combating terrorism as a central national priority. He also spoke about India’s evolving approach, describing a shift towards what he called a “New Normal” in responding to terror threats.

The delegation also met with members of the Indian regional media working in Kuwait. These conversations reinforced India’s unified stance on terrorism and the broad political agreement within the country to combat it in all its forms.

As part of the cultural engagements, the delegation visited the exhibition “Rihla-e-Dosti: 250 Years of India-Kuwait Friendship” at the National Library of Kuwait. The exhibit featured rare manuscripts, old books, historic coins and artefacts that reflected the long-standing relationship between the two nations.

The visit concluded after a series of meetings with government officials, opinion leaders, civil society members, think tanks and Indian community representatives. The delegation conveyed India’s strong position on terrorism and highlighted the country’s intent to deepen strategic cooperation with Kuwait across multiple sectors.
