Qatar celebrates Yoga Day 2025 with grand community gathering

Doha: The 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) was celebrated in Qatar on June 21, 2025, drawing over 1500 yoga enthusiasts, including teachers, diplomats, students and members of the Indian community.

Organized by the Embassy of India in partnership with the Indian Sports Center and local Indian organizations, the event reinforced yoga’s message of unity, health and sustainability.

The main event, held at Ideal Indian School, featured a vibrant display of yoga practices and cultural performances that reflected the global appeal of this ancient Indian tradition.

India’s Ambassador to Qatar, Mr. Vipul, addressed the gathering and highlighted the significance of the United Nations resolution adopted in 2014 at the initiative of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that the resolution, co-sponsored by 177 countries including Qatar, demonstrates yoga’s universal acceptance and enduring relevance. Echoing this year’s theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, he emphasized yoga’s role in nurturing individual well-being and contributing to planetary harmony, aligning with India’s philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” — the world is one family.

In Qatar, the celebrations featured a mix of competitions and performances, including a Yoga Quiz, Yoga Asana contests, Rhythmic Yoga and Yoga Dance routines, a meditation session and a guided Common Yoga Protocol. Leading up to the main event, various schools and institutions across Qatar conducted practice sessions, building momentum and community engagement.
