Saudi Arabia: Expats can now update passport details online

Expatriates residing in Saudi Arabia can now update their passport information online through the Absher platform, eliminating the need to visit the offices of the General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat). The service is accessible through the employer's Absher account and applies to residents aged 18 and above following the renewal of their passports.

The update process is available in the 'My Services' section under 'Passport' on the Absher app. A clear image of the renewed passport must be uploaded, allowing the system to automatically extract the passport number and expiry date.

To complete the update, residents must confirm that their previous passport was not lost and that there are no reports of absence from work filed against them. Additionally, there must be no traffic violations linked to the residency permit (iqama) and no security restrictions for either the employee or the employer.

Passport information must be updated every five years. If a resident holds an additional passport or if the updated passport includes family members who have since received separate passports, the individual must visit a Jawazat office in person to complete the process.

Residents are also required to report lost passports in person. If the system is used to update a lost passport, the person completing the transaction will be held accountable under applicable laws, including for providing false information or forgery.

The cost for using this online service is SR69, inclusive of VAT. The person submitting the request bears full responsibility for the accuracy of the information provided.
