Virat Kohli receives ultimate tribute In Bengaluru

Bengaluru: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season faced a disappointing resumption as rain disrupted the much-anticipated match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Fans had reportedly gathered in large numbers, eager to pay tribute to Virat Kohli, especially in light of his unexpected retirement from Test cricket. In a symbolic gesture honouring the legendary India and RCB batter, a group of white pigeons was released over the stadium.

Many spectators chose to forgo RCB’s traditional red and black attire, instead donning white outfits and Kohli’s iconic No. 18 Test jersey. The crowd created a touching scene at the venue, but their tribute was unfortunately overshadowed by uncooperative weather.

The tribute to Virat Kohli appeared to be a spontaneous and heartfelt expression of admiration for a cricketer widely credited with revitalizing public interest in Test cricket and serving as one of its most passionate advocates.

Reports indicate that the day unmistakably revolved around Kohli, with fans lining up outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium as early as 4:30 pm. Many wore white jerseys bearing his iconic No. 18 and held placards in his honour. Eager to catch even a brief glimpse of the star batter, fans watched closely for the team bus, hoping to spot Kohli, who is known to sit in the front row, and perhaps receive a wave or a glance in return.

"Sir, avaru yavaga baruthare? (When will he come?)," a fan asked.

All through these years, Kohli remained an unwavering RCBian, and the red and gold jersey was like a second skin for him, NDTV reported.

"For me, the relationship and mutual respect that I have built with RCB over the years is the most valuable thing. Whether we win the trophy or not, it doesn't matter. This is my home," Kohli had said once.
