50 injured as car ploughs Liverpool Football Club victory parade

Liverpool, UK: At least 50 people including four children got injured after a man drove his car into a crowd celebrating Liverpool's Premier League title victory on Monday.

Police arrested a 53-year-old white British man in connection with the incident, while refusing to treat it as an act of terrorism, NDTV reported.

Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims told media that it was an ‘isolated incident’, adding that police are ‘not currently looking for anyone else in relation to it’.

"The incident is not being treated as terrorism," she was quoted as saying.

David Kitchin, the head of service at North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust, said among at least 27 football fans taken to hospital one child and one adult ‘sustained serious injuries’.

While 20 others with minor injuries received medical aid at the scene, more people were seeking treatment for injuries in local emergency departments, police said.

Footage showed a dark-color vehicle ramming into the crowd, throwing one person into the air as others falling around with the car heading forward.

After the car came to a halt, angry fans swarmed the vehicle, breaking windows just as the police tried to hold them back.

It is not known how the car entered the parade route despite the roads were closed for traffic to allow celebrations.

Thousands of people came to join celebrations of northwest English side's victory, braving torrential rains.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer praised ‘remarkable bravery’ of police and emergency services, adding that ‘They are supporting and caring for those injured in these terrible events.’
