Three people from Punjab’s Sangrur, Nawanshahr, and Hoshiarpur districts have reportedly gone missing after arriving in Tehran on May 1. According to a statement from the Indian Embassy in Iran, the families of the missing individuals have informed officials about their disappearance.
The embassy has reportedly taken up the matter with Iranian authorities, urging them to locate the missing citizens as a matter of priority and ensure their well-being. It was also mentioned that the families are being kept informed of ongoing efforts to trace their relatives.
Reports indicate that the three missing individuals have been identified as Hushanpreet Singh from Sangrur, Jaspal Singh from SBS Nagar, and Amritpal Singh from Hoshiarpur.
They were allegedly deceived by an agent in Punjab who promised to facilitate their travel to Australia via the Dubai-Iran route, with a brief stay in Iran, Siasat Daily reported.
However, soon after they arrived in Tehran, the individuals were reportedly abducted. For a period, they were able to contact their families using the phones of the kidnappers, but communication has ceased since May 11.
Family members have allegedly received disturbing videos showing the men bound with yellow ropes and visibly injured, with blood seen on their arms.
The abductors have also demanded large ransom payments. Meanwhile, the agent from Hoshiarpur who arranged their travel is said to be untraceable.
