Many countries ready to supply nuclear warheads to Iran: Russian leader

Moscow: Following the US attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, the former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev has made a chilling announcement that many countries are ready to ‘directly supply Iran with their nuclear warheads’.

The Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council has also called out President Trump for ‘plunging’ the US into a new war in the Middle East, while pointing out that Trump came in as peacemaker president, NDTV reported.

Questioning the effectiveness of the US strike on Iran, Dmitry Medvedev said that the Gulf country’s ‘Critical infrastructure of the nuclear fuel cycle appears to have been unaffected or sustained only minor damage.’

‘The enrichment of nuclear material - and now we can say it outright, the future production of nuclear weapons - will continue,’ Medvedev wrote.

Medvedev, however, did not identify the nations that are ready to supply nuclear warheads to Iran.

Pointing to the futility of the attack on Iran, Medvedev said that the Israeli population now live under constant threat just as explosions are reported from multiple places in the country.

‘The US is now entangled in a new conflict, with prospects of a ground operation looming on the horizon,’ he added.

The US attack on Iran, according to him, has only strengthened the country with its people ‘rallying around the country's spiritual leadership, including those who were previously indifferent or opposed to it.’

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday said that he would be travelling to Moscow to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday morning.

‘Russia is a friend of Iran, we always consult with each other,’ Araghchi told reporters at a press conference on the sidelines of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in Istanbul.

Araghchi’s meeting with President Putin comes after the US attack on key Iranian nuclear sites, which the US termed as a ‘necessary step’ to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Following US attack on Iran targeting to neutralize the country’s potential nuclear weapon programme, Iranian foreign minister said the attack was a gross violation of international law, adding that Iran has right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
