New Delhi: A mother buffalo in Kenya has become internet sensation after fighting off a pride of lions to save her calf.
Footage from the African country’s Maasai Mara showed lions rounding up a vulnerable buffalo calf in the wild.
No sooner the calf was pinned down than the mother charged in lashing its horns around.
Her courageous fight dispersed the lions immediately, however they kept coming back for the calf.
Each time she saw lions making a move, she charged towards them, which was quite heartening.
Shielding her baby, she lunged at them as they kept circling further afield.
It was however not an easy task as it proved her strength waning.
Refusing to back down, she was still fighting when help from other buffalos arrived.
The atmosphere shifted suddenly as the lions are suddenly outnumbered. They backed down just as the buffalos kept charging at them.
The mother, who seemed to be relieved of having to fight alone, was seen with her calf.
The footage points at the bond existing among animals in the wild and how protective they could get.
Dennis Koshal, a guide and photographer in Kenya, posted the video on Instagram with the caption: ‘Dramatic morning, all rongai sub adults putting down a buffalo calf, it was difficult for the mum to give up, all members of the herd defending the calf.’
It has garnered over 24 million views, along with comments with one user writing: ‘The Power of a mother is unmatched.’
Another said: ‘The joy I felt when the rest of the herd showed up—man, this was something special!’
A third user said: ‘When you realize what strength in numbers is really about.’
