Russia gets hit by 5 powerful earthquakes! Strongest 7.4!

Moscow: Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula experienced five powerful earthquakes, with the largest hitting a magnitude of 7.4 on Sunday. Though there were Tsunami warnings at first, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre repealed the warning according to the Associated Press.

The five powerful earthquakes hit the sea near Russia.

The largest quake was at a depth of 20 kilometres and was 144 kilometres east of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, which has a population of 180,000, according to the US Geological Survey.

Smaller — but still substantial — quakes were recorded before and after.

The PTWC initially said there was a danger of major tsunami waves, but later downgraded its warning before finally saying the danger had passed.

Russia's Emergencies Ministry also issued a tsunami warning following the largest quake, urging residents of coastal settlements to stay away from the shore.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, and the ministry said it had no immediate plans to evacuate residents.

On November 4, 1952, a magnitude 9.0 quake in Kamchatka caused damage but no reported deaths despite setting off 9.1-metre waves in Hawaii.

Meanwhile, on the war between Russia and  Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kyiv has proposed to hold a new round of peace talks with Moscow next week, IANS reported.

Rustem Umerov, who headed the Ukrainian delegation in the previous two talks in Istanbul, had sent the Russian side the offer to hold the meeting next week, Zelensky said in his evening address to the nation on Saturday.

The announcement of a new round of peace talks comes as earlier in the day, Russian forces carried out a massive strike on enterprises of Ukraine's military-industrial complex.
