Amid unclear stand on suggested cuts, CBFC clears Sitaare Zameen Par’

Mumbai: The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has officially cleared Aamir Khan's much-anticipated film Sitaare Zameen Par, days after rumours appeared of a dispute over suggested cuts. However, it is unknown whether the CBFC approved the film with the cuts or if Aamir stayed firm and the board relented.

A few days ago, allegations surfaced that the CBFC had requested two edits to the film, which Aamir Khan apparently refused to accept. According Bollywood Hungama report, a source had earlier stated, “With Aamir Khan not accepting the cuts, the censor certificate wasn’t awarded to Sitaare Zameen Par. Aamir now plans to once again meet the CBFC Examining Committee on Monday and put forward his point of view. Hopefully, a solution will be achieved and the CBFC will pass the film on June 16. Once that’s done, the advance booking of the film will be thrown open.”

Directed by RS Prasanna, the film is scheduled for theatrical release on June 20 and is expected to launch in approximately 3,000 cinemas across India, TNIE reported.

Advance bookings are anticipated to begin soon, with industry analysts projecting at least ₹10 crore in early ticket sales. Since the release is limited to theatres, strong audience feedback could drive these numbers even higher.

The cast includes Aamir Khan, Genelia D’Souza Deshmukh who is making her comeback to Hindi films and Darsheel Safary, who previously starred in Aamir’s 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par.

Sitaare Zameen Par is a Hindi remake of the Hollywood movie Champions, which itself was adapted from the Spanish film Campeones. Aamir has described the new film as a spiritual successor to Taare Zameen Par.

Reportedly, Aamir was adamant about preserving the film’s creative vision, resisting changes he felt would weaken its core message. Whether that stance influenced the CBFC’s final decision is uncertain, but the film is now cleared for release without further hold-ups.
