Veteran playback singer Udit Narayan received significant backlash after videos of him kissing female fans went viral on social media.
While he downplayed the controversy, calling it a gesture of affection and a sign of his pure heart, the incident sparked debate, with many arguing that there should be appropriate boundaries in how fan appreciation is handled. In a recent interview with Filmymantra Media, singer and actor Amit Tandon emphasized the need for self-restraint and maintaining respectful limits.
“Someone tried to reel him in, and he took the bait,” said Amit, who said it was just the action of a ‘h**ny old man’ who just went with the flow without realising the repercussions of his actions. “See, fans want to get close to you, but it is upto each individual to decide their own limits,” as reported by Indian Express.
Amit Tandon took a stronger stance on the issue, suggesting that the situation could have taken a violent turn if such a pass had been made at his own partner. He remarked that someone like him might have reacted aggressively if their wife or girlfriend had been kissed in such a manner.
Despite his criticism, Amit clarified that he still holds respect for Udit Narayan's singing talent. He emphasized the importance of knowing one’s boundaries and mentioned that even well-known and attractive singers like Sonu Nigam and Arijit Singh may have encountered similar situations. Amit added that he, too, is aware of his own limits.
According to the Indian Express, Amit continued his tirade against Udit Narayan’s kissing controversy saying, “What if the husband of the lady was there? Things could have taken an ugly turn. Also, it is not this fear that should stop anyone from doing such things, but just have your own limits.”
When asked about the controversial behaviour of Udit Narayan’s son, Aditya—known for incidents like throwing a microphone during a concert—Amit Tandon didn’t hold back, calling such actions unprofessional and indicative of a spoiled mindset.
He admitted he doesn’t know Aditya personally and acknowledged that he might be a decent person, but based on the circulating footage, Amit felt the behaviour reflected a “bigda hua” attitude.
At the same time, Amit offered a more balanced view by suggesting that Aditya might have been provoked and that a short clip may not reveal the full context.
Still, he circled back to the importance of self-restraint, especially for public figures, stressing that no matter the situation, there should always be a limit to how one reacts and expresses themselves.
