Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu has spoken out against the fat-shaming and criticism she's received following her weight gain after childbirth, stating firmly that online trolling does not shape her identity or self-worth.

Bipasha and her husband, actor Karan Singh Grover, welcomed their daughter, Devi, on November 12, 2022.

Since then, while the actress has stepped away from the big screen, she remains active on social media, frequently sharing heartfelt moments with her daughter. However, recent online chatter has focused more on her physical transformation than her new role as a mother.

Former Miss India and beauty influencer Shweta Vijay Nair recently posted a reel on Instagram highlighting how society unfairly imposes unrealistic beauty standards on women, especially mothers. Featuring both past and recent photos of Bipasha, Shweta emphasised the immense physical and emotional journey a woman undergoes during and after pregnancy.

Bipasha responded with a powerful message: "Thank you for your clear words... Hope the human race does not remain so shallow and so low forever... and they encourage and applaud women for the million roles they play each day."

She continued, "I am a super confident woman with a very evolved loving partner and family. Memes and trolls do not define me ever... nor did they make me who I am. But these are deeply disturbing reflections of society towards women. Another woman in my place could be deeply affected and scarred by the viciousness."

Ending her comment on a positive note, she added, "Anyways if we have stronger voices and at least women understanding and applauding women for who they are then women will rise higher and higher :) We are unstoppable ladies."

Karan Singh Grover also lent his voice in support of his wife and women in general. He wrote, "We should be putting all the women we know and love on a pedestal and praying to them. They are the gods/goddesses we should pray to. In fact, I believe that god/source is a feminine energy. Nothing else could have created something as beautiful as life."

The couple had earlier introduced their daughter with a touching post that read, "12.11.2022. Devi Basu Singh Grover. The physical manifestation of our love and blessings of Ma is here now and she is divine."
