Child rights body summons Netflix over "sexually explicit content" accessible to minors

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has summoned Netflix officials regarding the alleged availability of "sexually explicit content" accessible to minors on the streaming platform.
The NCPCR has scheduled a meeting for next Monday to address this issue.
In a letter sent to Netflix officials on Tuesday, the NCPCR highlighted that the "unrestricted accessibility of explicit content" to minors on Netflix constitutes a violation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act of 2012. The commission emphasized the severity of the issue, pointing out that it had previously raised this concern with Netflix in June but received no response.
The letter stated, "Now, therefore, the commission in pursuance of the functions and powers (under) order Section 14 of CPCR Act 2005 requires you to appear in person physically before the commission along with the details of the action taken in this matter at 1500 hours on July 29, 2024."
No immediate reaction from Netflix has been reported regarding the summons. The NCPCR is taking a firm stance on the issue, insisting on accountability and measures to prevent minors from accessing inappropriate content on the platform.
