Cine workers group slams Fawad, Mahira; demands Pak artists' ban
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Accusing Pakistani actors Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan of “anti-India” comments, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) came down on the two, reports NDTV.
The association, which once again used the chance to bring up its long-standing demand of complete ban on Pakistani artists in India, said in a press release that Mahira Khan referred to India’s military response to Pahalgam as “seriously cowardly”, while accusing Fawad khan of “supporting divisive narratives” when he was supposed to condemn terrorism.
It is alleged that the actors’ remarks disrespect India and insult Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country.
In its statement, the association said that it maintains a complete ban on Pakistani artists, filmmakers and financiers from working in India.
"No Indian artist will collaborate with any Pakistani talent, nor will any global platform be shared with them," the AICWA statement read.
Further, AICWA has opened its criticism of Indian music labels and performers who continue to work with Pakistani artists on global stages. The organisation called such collaborations “a betrayal of national pride”.
Saying that casting Fawad Khan in the movie Abir Gulal is a disgrace to the sacrifices of Indian soldiers, it asked what message such filmmakers wanted to convey. The association wanted Indian filmmakers, producers, and artists to prioritise “national interest” over artistic collaborations.
After the deadly terror attack on tourists at Biseron valley in Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, India had initiated retaliatory strikes on an alleged terrorist location in Pakistan on May 7, via Operation Sindoor.
