Eminem alleges copyright violation, sues Meta for 900 crore

Grammy-winning rapper Eminem has filed a major copyright infringement lawsuit against Meta Platforms, the company behind Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. According to a report by E! News, the lawsuit—filed through his publishing company, Eight Mile Style—seeks over $109 million (around Rs 900 crore) in damages.

Filed on May 30, the lawsuit claims that Meta has been using Eminem’s music catalogue, which includes 243 songs, without proper authorization. The complaint accuses Meta of permitting the unauthorized storage, reproduction, and use of his tracks across its platforms.

Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, alleges that Meta allowed users to feature his music in videos and other content without obtaining licenses or giving appropriate credit, NDTV reported.

The rapper is seeking $150,000 in damages per song, claiming that the alleged infringement has resulted in lost income and devalued his copyrights. The legal action adds to growing concerns about how social media sites handle licensed music.

Amid legal difficulties, Eminem is enjoying a personal milestone: he has become a grandfather. Hailie Jade Scott, 29, recently welcomed her first child with husband Evan McClintock. On March 14, the couple welcomed Elliot Marshall McClintock, a baby boy.

In his music video for Temporary, released in October 2024, Eminem gave fans a preview into this next chapter by featuring heartwarming clips of Hailie growing up. The video concludes with an emotional scene in which she tells her father about her pregnancy, a moment that now holds much greater significance.
