Euphoria fame actress Sydney Sweeney has joined the cast of the new Barbarella movie remake. The film is currently in the early stages of development.

The actress took to Instagram to share the news and posted an image of the original artwork from 1968. The space opera film was a hit in the 60s. She captioned it "time to save the universe".

Barbarella is a science fiction film based on the French comic series of the same name by Jean-Claude Forest. The original starred Jane Fonda as a space traveller who is sent by the US government to find scientist Durand Durand, who has created a weapon that could destroy humanity. The rumours of a remake have been around for years and it seems the studio has finally found Sweeney to step into Fonda's shiny space shoes.

After the second season of the HBO show Euphoria aired, Sweeney's character went through drastic developments that led to conversations about teenage girls being sexualised. The actress has established herself as a GenZ icon. She is also working on the 2024 film Madame Web with Dakota Johnson.
